USS Arizona

Welcome to the USS Arizona!

Welcome to the USS Arizona! We are a collaborative writing group working to produce a quality work of fiction together to share with the Internet. Our story currently takes place in the spring of 2025, with tensions between the United States of America and the People’s Republic of China mounting after the COVID-19 pandemic has come to a close. The USS Arizona (SSN-803) is a Block V Virginia Class fast attack submarine of the United States Navy. As the newest submarine in commission and the second Block V, it has a larger hull size, upgraded technology, and gender neutral crew capabilities that the previous Block I-IV submarines didn’t offer. From underwater and aerial drones to increased sensor capabilities and an upgraded weapons platform, the Arizona is one of the most capable submarines under the water.

In our story, Arizona is currently based out of the Kitsap-Bangor Naval Station in Washington and is preparing to depart on its first cruise. Operation Triton is a public relations cruise that will have the submarine circumnavigate the North American continent, going under the ice pack and through the Panama Canal. The Arizona is the first submarine to complete such a journey since the USS Triton circumnavigated the globe in 1960.

Our community is heavily based on collaboration, as our story is unique and requires research on the Navy and submarines. Importantly, you do not need to have any military experience or knowledge to participate. The members and staff pride themselves on being available to work with each other and help with research needed to write a quality story. Frequent conversations and discussions for specific scenes/posts take place to help guide members through procedures that may occur as part of our writing.

Members are required to be at least eighteen years of age and to participate in our Discord server. To learn more about our story please visit our database, view our page on how to participate, and join us in Discord and say hello!.

» Format Changes

Posted on 26 Jun 2023 @ 13:49 by Lieutenant Commander Elizabeth Watts in Sim Announcement

Afternoon Arizona members,

After much reflection and discussions with Beth over the past months regarding the activity on Arizona, I've realized that changes are needed to continue to be successful and reach the activity levels we once had. My continuous thoughts are torn between immensely enjoying the incredible character development and activity that occurs off the boat and the fact that we need more success in accomplishing writing on the boat and the plot of our intended story. So what do we do?

A few things will change moving forward with how sim development operates and how we will operate in character. So let's outline the two most significant changes:

1). The Arizona Staff will be disbanded, and we will make our out-of-character development much more collaborative, involving all members if they choose to participate. There will be an AGM to be my assistant and to help with approvals of items and administrative matters that require full access to services. Beth will be Arizona's AGM.

2). We offer too large of a set of positions for members to write. We need to find a reason for half of our characters to interact with each other. One reason is differences in appropriateness in the various ranks interacting when not specifically related to duty. As our character development is the most significant part of our writing, we limit many of our members to the interactions they can have off-duty with most characters. Moving forward, all members must have a character that is part of the Ward Room. (Warrant or Commissioned Officer)

So how will we accomplish those two items? There is a development/project forum currently limited to staff that will be cleaned up and made public for all to participate in the development of our world. All interested members will be issued wiki accounts to assist in developing the database. As for the character requirement, there are only a few sim members that this will affect because they will be required to establish a wardroom character. Any additional characters will still be allowed as secondary characters moving forward. A ticket will be created to discuss options with those members.

You'll see some changes in Discord and on the Nova over the next few days. Please be patient; I will get to each step as I have time to focus.

Any questions can be addressed via ticket or in the #arizona or #members chat.

Thank you,
Stephen

» Rules Update - Staff Communication

Posted on 27 Jan 2023 @ 21:22 by Lieutenant Commander Elizabeth Watts in Sim Announcement

A rule has been added to our list of community rules regarding communication with the staff. To better coordinate our efforts and to keep the entire team involved in all official sim matters, we request that any communication initiated for the staff is done via a ticket created in Discord. From time to time, we may ask that you communicate via nova's PM/DM system if it just makes more sense for the purpose at hand. If you have any questions regarding the updated rules, please create a ticket on the discord in #support and select it from Arizona's category.

You can click here to view the complete list of rules.
